Smoky Mountain Camping - What Kind of Gear Is Needed?

Place the tarp beneath the tent before you pound in the stakes to prevent moisture from seeping into the tent through the floors.

The soil composition can vary from soft dirt to rocky soil, depending with where you make camp. Back country sites and mountain campsites, as opposed to sites in the foothills and also the valleys, will have quite difficult and rocky soil. Bring heavy-duty steel tent stakes that are at least 10-inches longer. These tent stakes will not bend easily plus they are long enough to protected your tent into rocky soil. Bring a tent peg mallet as well to help you pound in the blind levels. Your strength alone may not be enough to drive inside stakes.

Black bears will be the symbol of the Smoky Mountains, and for good reason. The Smoky Mountains possess a large population of dark bears, and some of them have grown acclimated to humans to the stage that they will approach campers in hopes of getting food. Purchase a food bag and store your food high in a cedar. Alternately, buy a bear-proof locker or even container. Do not leave food unattended on the floor or a bear may steal it, and do not place food inside your tent or a bear might come into the tent at night in need of a meal.

This Smoky Mountains get cool overnight, even in summer months. As a result, you might want to bring a heavy sleeping bag thats appropriate for cold climatic conditions camping, as well since several layers of gear. The peak of the mountain can be as much as 10 degrees cooler than the valley, so you need to be able to add and remove gear as needed. If you will be camping in the drop or winter, bring a heavy jacket, a hat and gloves and warm socks and footwear.

The weather can modify quickly in the Smokies, consequently bring along a battery-powered climatic conditions radio. Check the weather radio before you decide to embark on any extended hikes or before you decide to leave the rain fly of your tent open overnight. An apparent day can quickly turn into a wind or rain storm, and a weather broadcast can alert you before you encounter any significant climatic conditions.

Finally, bring your camera. Few sights on the globe can match the mists coming over the Smoky Mountains, the elk herds moving in the valleys, or the unrivaled fall colors in the event the trees change. If you arrived at the Smokey Mountains prepared for the weather and the fauna, you will have the camping trip of a lifetime and the images will preserve those memories forever.

Styles in Tents

Most of the tents have some underlying common styles. Some are listed below:

A-Frame - A-frame tents are typically patterned which has a single layer of fabric wall supported by a few poles. These sometimes usually tend to sag at the sides using up space inside the outdoor tents. The risk of this kind of tent is that if you ever bump it, during this rains, it may cause a leak.

Cabin Camping or Canvas Tents - These are heavy-duty frame based together with spacious. Some even have space for a picnic table or some sort of wood stove making them great for winter hunting. However, they can be heavy, about 35 to help 160 pounds, bulky, take longer to dry, and take about sixty minutes for two heavy packers to set up.

Dome Hiking or Geodesic Tents- These dome shaped tents are extremely popular because of the snow, rain and wind turbine resistant properties. They offer good headroom and tend to be the aluminum poles create them quite strong. The free-standing design doesnt involve tent stakes or guy lines to enable them to remain upright.

When Backpacker Magazine find the Big Agnes Emerald Mountain SL3 tent for its Editors Choice Award, I had to check it out. I love to spend my weekends and some other time I can squeeze using my busy life within places far, far gone. In realizing this dream Ive tried about every type of tent and shelter imagined up by any backwoods dwellers. Boy, the stories I could tell. Just suffice it to say they usually include wind turbine, all forms of water several species of Gods formation!

Its been my tent of choice for several seasons now, and other then smallish panels - theres little about this I dont love. Heres my list of favorites:

1. The space - My son together with I are both over six feet tall, and we get so fed up with sleeping diagonally across a tent and waking up with damp heads together with feet from bumping in the tent walls. The Emerald Mountain SL3 solves this issue in two ways. Primary, it is ninety inches long - a full seven and a half feet - and minute, the head and base tent walls rise almost straight up. I can even sleep in my favored position with an individual arm over my face without bumping into everything.

2. The Width - The SL3 is passed five feet wide. We spend lots of evenings playing cards and we can spread out and do this with ease. Theres even room for any dog.

3. Construction of the Take flight - I love the fact that shape of the travel moves falling water away from the tent. It is utterly waterproof and within several inches of the floor. It performs like a champ. Because it is indeed waterproof it does form condensation on the under side, but the fact that it sits several inches width above the tent ensures that this has never been a problem. Any accumulated condensation easily shakes off after you break camp. The fly also forms a vestibule outside every one of the side doors. This creates great space that nearly doubles the size of the tent.
